The Two System Types Every Business Needs to Thrive
Every successful business requires two types of systems working in harmony to create Actionable Safe Spaces™. And trust me when I tell you — this isn’t just some fancy talk.
For over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing entrepreneurs and business owners realize how the right systems can transform their business from ashy to classy!
Let’s cut to the chase and explore how these systems can help you stop compromising yourself and start creating the impact only you can make in this world.
Because remember: it ain’t never been you — you’ve been brilliant all along. You’re just operating with systems that are not serving you!
Building Your Foundation
Let’s explore how these systems can transform your business.
Human-Based Systems
These business systems aren’t all fancy tech ish — they’re all about how you move and groove in your business — with and without technology!
From the way you make those boss decisions to how you structure your day-to-day workflow, it’s about the human elements that keep your business engine running as intended.
Think about it like this: your negotiation strategies, the way you network with others, your client journey frameworks — these are all examples of human-based systems that make your business uniquely YOU.
Technology-Based Systems
These tech-based systems are your digital tools and platforms that need to support and enhance your natural way of working.
Think about it — while these systems are important for running your business smoothly, they should never be the ones calling the shots or forcing you to work in ways that don’t feel authentic to you.
From your CRM systems to your project management software, these tech-based systems should be working FOR you, not the other way around.
Your tech-based systems should support — not dictate — your human-based systems, because that’s how you keep it real and effective for you and errybody involved!
Two Types of Human-Made Systems
Both tech-based and human-based systems are fundamentally human-made because humans create them all — and y’all, this is why I/you/we can fix what ain’t working!
The key difference between these systems is who or what controls them, and that’s what determines how you approach fixing them when they’re not hitting right for you and your stakeholders.
Human-Made Systems = Human-Based + Tech-Based Systems
When humans are the ones running the show and making all the decisions, those are what I call human-based systems.
But when humans let technology take the wheel while we just keep an eye on things and make sure everything’s running smooth? Those are your tech-based systems right there.
When humans directly control the system, it’s human-based. When technology controls the system but humans monitor and maintain it, it’s tech-based.
And here’s the thing that’ll really make you say “mmhmm” — since humans created and continuously create both these systems, you have the power to fix them when they betray you, your greatness, and your folks.
Trust The Ratchet Sage™ when I tell you — if something’s broken, you can absolutely change it up to work better for you and yours!
Don’t be out here ashy in these streets!
On errythang, your human-made systems MUST reflect both your strengths and your challenges if you want them to truly work for you.
Let me break this down and show you what this hits like…
- human-based systems: if you’re most productive at night (like ya girl here!), your scheduling system better account for that natural rhythm. Don’t be out here fighting yourself trying to do deep work at 7am when your brain ain’t ready!
- tech-based systems: when you’re setting up that automated scheduling tool, make sure it’s configured to block those peak productivity hours for YOUR work and protect those low-energy periods plus your planned time away from the business. Because burnout ain’t cute, your family and friends will resent you, and how is any of this productive?!?
Don’t let your human-made systems betray your lived truth — this is ASHY! It’s time to build human-based first, and tech-based systems after so they all can work for YOU, your dreams, visions, and rebelution.
Your Lotion: Key Elements for Success
Y’all, to build systems that truly serve your business and refrain from starting a fire while ashy in these streets, let me break down these key elements for you:
Start with Human-Based Systems First
- Get clear on your natural workflows and what hits right for you before you even think about those tech solutions.
- Keep it real by accounting for both your strengths and those areas where you need a little extra lotion.
Let Technology Support You, Don’t Let It Lead You
- Choose tools that enhance your authentic way of shaking and baking; what everyone else is using is not likely to work for your greatness.
- Make sure your tech solutions align with how you naturally get down in your business and with your stakeholders.
Create Systems That Flow Together
- Build that flexibility in because growth and the ever-giving pivot ain’t always pretty, but both are always necessary for your shine and slay.
- Your human-based and tech-based systems need to work together like a well-oiled machine; under an infrastructure…more on that in my next article. 😏
Bottom Line
Your systems should amplify your authenticity, not diminish it. When aligned with your true self, transformation becomes inevitable. Start small, remain consistent, and always ensure your systems reflect your authentic way of working.
The journey from chaos to clarity isn’t just about implementing systems — it’s about creating harmony between your human-based and tech-based systems.
